Tower Blocks

In the post-war era, Britain’s population was faced with severe housing shortages. To combat this, high-rise tower blocks were constructed all across the UK, altering the landscape significantly.

At this time, tower blocks were the latest development in social housing schemes. However, due to their poor design and construction, coupled with a severe lack in day to day management, the quality in these areas began to decline and other issues such as drug abuse and crime became strife.

Tower Blocks focuses on particular cities in the North of England whom suffered massively from industrial decline. It also aims to highlight how the re-emergence of nature around these buildings belies the reality of the abandonment, as many of these buildings house broken communities or have become totally uninhabited and derelict.
